1) What do agencies look for in a model?
Some models are lucky enough to be scouted by agencies whilst they are out and about but most aspiring models need to work really hard to get where they want to be.  'Models need to make a good impression on a wide range of people as part of their work so you'll need to be polite, professional, prompt and  respectful to progress in the industry.'
The link below talks a bit about different things models need.  A brief introduction into the article is given before it talks about four different topics; The first is qualities which talks about what models need to be to do well it also talks about Portfolios and agencies which mentions the different style photos you need so anyone wanting people for auditions or castings can see what you look like and whether you are what they are looking for.  Agencies are also one of the most important a model needs as the agencies are the ones who tell you about auditions or castings that you are wanted for, without this you cant really go to auditions or castings. Lastly is talks about discipline; this lets you know what sort of things you will have to do to make sure you stay healthy and looking your best so you stand a better chance at modelling.  This website is useful as it gives informative facts in a small amount so you know roughly what agencies look for which will help aspiring models.

2)Why do some models prefer to do adverts rather than photography work?

Some models prefer to do adverts as they allow them to act to be different characters whereas in photography work they can only be themselves and don't get the chance to be someone else.  Also doing adverts gives models the chance to show other agencies or advert makers or people who want photography can see exactly what they are like and how they act and what they can do.  When doing and advert for the TV or online models get paid more for it as they may need to film over a number of days whereas if its photography work you don't get paid as much as you may only need to be in the studio for one day.  The more hours you work the more the model gets paid.  Although models are always interested in the money its fun to do adverts as you get to meet new people that you might not have net if you do photography work.   

3) When is a good time to start modelling?
I thought the best time to start modelling is when you a little kid or when you're about to leave school as this way you would be able to of been doing it for a while and are used to the surroundings or you would have something to fall back on by just leaving school.  This website however says that it is best to start modelling at the age of 18 as (being a model herself) she knows that it is also good to have a back up plan if modelling doesn't go as well they hoped it would.  Ruth Crilly (The model who wrote the information) says that when she is asked by young girls about modelling she says that she thinks it better for aspiring models to know know who they want to be so they are less likely to be persuaded by the media on how they think models should look.  The information Ruth Crilly gives is helpful as she lets people know what she thinks about models and that you shouldn't start it too young as some people may feel that if they are told to change their image they are more likely to do so at a younger age as they feel the need to fit in more.  As she is a model she knows the harshness of the business and what is required to make it as she knows she needs to be herself and not let people change her.

4) Is modelling seen as girly?

Female models get paid more

Most people think modelling is girly because of hair, make up and clothing but people forget that males can be models as well other wise we wouldn't have anyone to model men's clothing.   This picture shows the amount the top ten male and female models get paid, female models get paid more a lot more than male models which has lead people to believe that modelling is more for girls as they get paid more for it.  An editor says that the reason female models are paid much more is because 'With more adverts needing women, there are More opportunities for models.  This means to attract top female modelling talent, you need to pay more, since there are and abundance or other opportunities.'  This means that because more female models are needed they are willing to pay more as male models aren't needed for as many adverts so they don't need to be paid more.

5) What do people who don't want to be models think?

Some people believe that modelling is fake and that everyone gets photo shopped or air brushed but not all models do.  Some magazines do like their models to be a size zero and look at flawless as they can possible make them but for the companies who just take the photos and maybe change one or two things prove that not all models are fake. Some models are photoshopped to appear perfect to appeal to the audience more which leaves people to believe models are fake and that anyone could do it.  Not all models are changed some just have make up done which most women wear which people think is wrong.  People say modelling is easy as you just have to stand there and be told what to do but models work long hours and they can start early and finish late; just like any other job modelling is tiring.  When agencies make their models eat hardly anything they don't have the energy from the food so they get tired quickly.
