A news package is generally the lengthiest form of conveyance seen on television newscast, they are also found in a long form news programme. A news package is an independent taped news report, the news anchor will read the introduction live then the already recorded information regarding the news package in question will be shown. The main part of a news package is the presentation of the reporter talking into the camera this is known as a "standup" as the news reporter is seen standing in front of the camera.
Field reporters
A Field reporter is when a news presenter goes to the location of where the report is taking place to add affect and is much more effective report. Having a field reporter means that the presenter can report from the location of where the incident is taking place or has taken place, this shows the reporter cares about what has happened and may put their life at risk to bring you the news.
Links to studio
These are used to sometimes report live from the incident and you will have a presenter in the studio and a presenter in a different studio location to report what is happening as it unfolds.
Mode of address to viewer
This is how the presenter is talking to the audience, it is important that the presenter looks and sounds professional so the audience believe what they say and have respect for the person presenting the news. When someone is presenting the news having them look smart makes it seem like they know what they are doing and you can understand them easily.
Interviewing experts and witnesses
The news interviews people to tell the audience from a professional or a witnesses point of view to show the audience just how serious something is. Having an expert on the news telling the audience about something that could actually affect people makes them feel reassured and have a better understanding in what is happening. Having a witness talking about what happened makes the incident seem more dramatic and adds a first hand recount on what happened.
Report structure
This is how the news report is set out, it means everything you see from the presenter introducing themselves to the point where the presenter is doing the ending as well. In a news report the presenter starts off by saying who they are, where they are and what the news item is about, it is followed by the presenter talking about what has happened and may be followed by an interview or a witnesses take on what happened. This is important as the audience don't just want to know about the presenters thoughts as they weren't there at the time.
Actuality footage
This is when a witness has filmed what has happened as they were there at the time of it taking place. The person who has filmed it isn't a professional and have just started filming what has been happening. The news use this because they can show the people watching the news what is happening and how serious it could be.

The presenter is doing a field report as he is in the location of the situation and is showing us what is happening and how serious this is, he mentions about how close the rescuers are to the miners to give the audience hope. The presenter isn't wearing anything to protect him as he doesn't need he just has a jacket on. The background of where he is is close to the miners, he is just in front of the miners to show you how dramatic this is.
This news item has used links to studio as you see a reporter at the start (0:00-0:0:12 seconds) they have him reporting here to add drama and show us exactly what is happening. In the top left hand corner you see a box that tells the audience this is live, this tells the audience that what they are seeing is happening as they watch it. The location of where the presenter is reporting from is near to where the miners are to add affect and show the audience how involved the reporter is.
The mode of address is formal to add a professional side to the report, the don't have strong accents and you can hear she is sophisticated and means what she is sayings. They don't use words that people wont be able to understand but they talk about the incident with the correct wording. The presenter is talking to an expert which gives the audience proper information on what has happened and people are going to believe her because she is well known.
The news reporter is talking to Dr Jennifer Wild who is an expert, they have decided to interview her because the audience will know that what she is saying is true and they can believe that what they are being told is the truth. The expert is being interviewed in the studio with the news reporter to make it seem relaxed yet professional. The question the presenter asks are relevant to what the audience want to hear, they have decided to interview an expert because they miners are still trapped and it seems more reliable having an expert tell the audience the details.

The structure of this news report has the presenter signing in by saying what you are watching and what they are going to be talking about. The news report shows facts to show the audience what has been happening and where it has happened. They interview some people to ask what they think about it to show the audience how serious the riots had become. They have an outside broadcast to show you the damage that has been done and the seriousness of what has happened.
The actuality footage adds the effect of how bad things have become and just what has happened by using actuality footage it shows the audience the devastation left by the people rioting, it also shows that most people don't actually know why most of these people are rioting.
